On June 2, 2016, the Tunisian Minister of Justice and U.S. Ambassador to Tunisia, officially launched the Improving Court Administration Program at a seminar organized in Gammarth. More than 70 judges, prosecutors, clerks, and Ministry officials participated in the seminar.
Minister Mansour welcomed the contribution of international cooperation in supporting reforms to improve the Tunisian justice sector and stressed the importance of access to justice for citizens. U.S. Ambassador Rubinstein echoed the importance of access to justice, noting that a judiciary that delivers quality services efficiently is critical to the development of democracy.
Throughout the day, participants shared the challenges that have limited access and increased delays and backlogs. Thematic panels enabled participants to focus not only on these challenges but also on concrete solutions that could result in positive change in Tunisian courts.
The Improving Court Administration Program in Tunisia is made possible through funding by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
