Former NCSC Board member receives one of United Way’s highest honors

Williamsburg, Va., Feb. 20, 2019 – Former National Center for State Courts (NCSC) Board member Edward W. Mullins, Jr. has been named 2018 Humanitarian of the Year by the United Way of Midlands, South Carolina for his “extraordinary leadership in philanthropic and human services.” Mullins served on NCSC’s Board of Directors from 2009 to 2015 and has served as a member of the Lawyers Committee since 2005.

“We congratulate Ed as the recipient of such an honor,” said NCSC President Mary McQueen. “His passion for lifting others up is evident in everything he does, and the National Center continues to benefit from Ed’s dedication to the justice system and his tireless work.”

In 2013, NCSC presented Mullins with the John H. Pickering Award, which recognizes a Lawyers Committee member who has professionally and personally contributed to NCSC in a significant way. The Pickering Award is not an annual award, it’s only presented when there is a deserving candidate.

Mullins receives the Humanitarian Award Feb. 21 during a ceremony in Columbia, South Carolina. He recently retired from his legal practice after 38 years with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough in Columbia, S.C.

The National Center for State Courts, headquartered in Williamsburg, Va., is a nonprofit court organization dedicated to improving the administration of justice by providing leadership and service to the state courts. Founded in 1971 by the Conference of Chief Justices and Chief Justice of the United States Warren E. Burger, NCSC provides education, training, technology, management, and research services to the nation’s state courts.
