Illinois trial lawyer inducted into Warren E. Burger Society

Williamsburg, Va., Nov. 20, 2019 — Todd A. Smith, founding partner of Power Rogers & Smith, is being inducted into the National Center for State Courts’ Warren E. Burger Society.

The Burger Society honors individuals who have used their time, talent, and support to the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) in exceptional ways. It is named for the former chief justice of the United States who helped found NCSC in 1971. The induction ceremony takes place Nov. 21 in Washington, D.C.

Smith, a leader among personal injury trial lawyers, is past president of the 60,000-member Association of Trial Lawyers of America and past president of the Illinois Bar Association and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.  He is a Fellow of the American Board of Trial Advocates, American College of Trial Lawyers, International Academy of Trial Lawyers, International Society of Barristers, and the American Bar Foundation.

He served on NCSC’s Board of Directors for six years and as co-chair of its Lawyers Committee.

He was voted Chicago Lawyer magazine’s Person of the Year because of his commitment to making access to justice for regular citizens his professional pursuit. He has been included in The Best Lawyers in America book in every annual publication since 1995.  In 2019 it named him Lawyer of the Year for Personal Injury Litigation.

The National Center for State Courts, headquartered in Williamsburg, Va., is a nonprofit court organization dedicated to improving the administration of justice by providing leadership and service to the state courts. Founded in 1971 by the Conference of Chief Justices and Chief Justice of the United States Warren E. Burger, NCSC provides education, training, technology, management, and research services to the nation’s state courts.
