The Center for Elders and the Courts (CEC) serves as the primary resource for the judiciary and court management on issues related to aging. Our center strives to increase judicial awareness of issues related to aging, provide training tools and resources to improve court responses to elder abuse and adult guardianships, and develop a collaborative community of judges, court staff, and aging experts. The CEC was created in 2008 as a result of a grant to the National Center for State Courts from the Retirement Research Foundation of Chicago (Grant #2008-056). The CEC's earliest concept came in 2003 with a special publication on elder abuse and the subsequent development of a national multidisciplinary working group of experts. Since those early efforts, the Center for Elders and the Courts has continued to grow an expanding body of work, resources and tools for courts.
