April 2021

Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to share the 2020 annual report of the National Center for State Courts.

It goes without saying that 2020 was a challenging year for everyone. I’m proud to say that NCSC rose to the occasion, as you will see in the pages of this report.

In 2020, NCSC staffed a Pandemic Rapid Response Team, created by the Conference of Chief Justices and the Conference of State Court Administrators, which helped courts around the country shift to remote hearings and remain open for essential services. We collected, organized, and shared innovations happening in courts around the country.

Throughout this report, you will hear from chief justices, court administrators, judges, and others who work closely with NCSC to find solutions to the most pressing issues facing state courts.

I hope the report provides you with a broader understanding of the scope and relevance of NCSC’s work and our commitment to improving the administration of justice and promoting the rule of law, both in state courts and courts around the world.

Sincerely,

Mary C. McQueen
President
National Center for State Courts
